AERODYNAMIC: Removing the cluster of hardware (where stem and handlebar connect) allowed us to design the bar's leading edge a single airfoil. We optimized this airfoil to provide a maximum advantage in clean air at speeds seen from long solo breakaways to full gas World Tour sprints. While a four watt improvement may seem small, it adds up to a 32cm lead over a 250m final sprint. When races are won by bike throws, this is a winning difference. LIGHT AND STIFF: By removing the stem's hardware cluster the Rapide Cockpit is 50 grams lighter (100mm x 420mm) than a two piece Rapide bar and Tarmac SL7 combo. When designing the Coast Stem, we had two main goals: construct it to complement the Coast Drop Bar and, like our Range Stem, develop it to satisfy the tech nerd in each of us. This stem is a shorty, and that's just what we want. The larger width of our Coast Drop Bar requires a shorter stem to achieve comfortable reach numbers.  If you run your current length stem with the Coast Drop Bar, your arms will be stretched to the side and your body stretched forward—kinda like how Superman flies—not ideal for biking. The shorter stem, in tandem with a comfortable 7° rise, places your body in an ideal position for comfort while remaining aggressive. And to make sure you don't miss getting that footie, the Coast Stem includes a removable GoPro mount. So, you can easily record your gravel adventures or attach a light to escape into the night. Roll up to your next gravel escapade wide, short, and proud.  Sizing is a little challenging, as there is no hard and fast rule that works for everyone. A good rule of thumb is for every 20mm wider bar you go, drop 10mm on your stem. Again, a lot of this comes down to personal preference, but this is a good starting point for sizing.

A few years back we started playing around with wider bars on our mountain bikes. Trendy? Yes. Beneficial? Absolutely. It wasn't simply the idea to go big, but a deeper look at the geometry of a mountain bike. Through this, we discovered that wider bars had a few killer benefits: more stability, further control, and extra comfort.  As we began designing the Coast Drop Bar, these lessons of the wide MTB bar intrigued us. Does a wider drop-bar provide extra stability and control? Why yes, yes it does. And let's chat comfort—the combination of a wider bar with a shorter stem and shallower drop provides ergonomic relief to the wrists and neck.  These are bars that you can pump while sprinting, drop into while cruising, and handle the hoods with agility and ease. Now, shape and ergonomics aren't the only important things—material is key. We opted for a 6061 alloy to control vibrations while remaining light and nimble.
