Skyline Century

Go out west to 601 to a right at Hunt Country Corner (actually 601 continues here) to a right on 676 to a left on 660 to a left on 743. Follow 743 past Earlysville (bear right at the store) and continue to follow 743 to route 33. Turn left on 33 and follow up to the Skyline Drive. Go south on Skyline Drive to Afton. Take 250 east down the mountain. Turn right on 692 at the bottom of the mountain (just past the intersection with 6/151) and follow 692 to route 29. You can come back on 29 or take some back roads (try the return from Batesville).
The county maps for Albemarle and Greene Co. are helpful for this route. You can order them from VDOT. Virginia County Maps - County maps are available for a small charge ($.50 each plus 4.5% sales tax) from the VDOT Information Desk; 1401 East Broad Street; Richmond, Virginia 23219. Please specify the county or counties needed. Or you can get county maps at the VDOT Transportation Research building on the right hand fork at Observatory Hill half-way up the hill. Go to the library int he basement to get the maps.

Reed's Gap-
Go out south on 631 to a right on 706 to a right on 708, cross 29 and continue on 708 to a left on 710 to a right on 696 to a right on 692 (you can use this route backwards for the return from 692 instead of 29 on the Skyline Century). In "downtown" Batesville turn left on 635. Follow to 151, turn left on 151 to a right on 664 (the road up to Wintergreen Resort and the Blue Ridge Parkway). Follow 664 up all the way to the parkway (very steep in the last 3 miles). At this point you can turn right (north) on the Parkway and go back to Afton and follow the directions back from 250 on the Skyline Century) - about 70-75 mile ride OR for a 105 mile ride you can turn left on the Parkway (south) and go to the route 56 intersection. Turn left to go down towards Montebello. Follow 56 all the way to 151. Turn left on 151 and follow 151 back to a right on 635. Then you are backtracking 635 to Batesville (turn right on 692, etc.) Maps of Nelson County and Albemarle County cover this route.
