Radio protocol

 

We will be using channel 3 unless otherwise directed. Be sure your radio is turned on and set to channel 3.

Please pick up and return radios to Steve Gordon in the parking lot or Susie Segeleon in the registration area.

 

  1. Do not push the talk button unless what you have to say is really important. When you have the talk button depressed, nobody else can talk. Also be sure you don’t leave the talk button on inadvertently!
  2. Hold the talk button down the entire time you need to talk. Wait for a brief second after you push before you begin speaking.
  3. Identify yourself immediately. For example. “This is race 2 wheels”.
  4. Identify who you are trying to contact if you need to contact a specific station. For example “This is race 2 wheels. Trying to contact race 2 EMT.”
  5. The contact person should respond “ This is race 2 EMT go ahead”.
  6. State your information or question clearly. For example “Rider down on right side of road between corner 1 and corner 2 just past the finish area. Needs assistance by EMT.” Be sure to give as exact a location as possible if necessary. The corners are numbered as follows: Corner 1 is the corner closest to route 20 (intersection of Secretary’s Rd and Carter’s Mountain Rd). Corner 2 is the corner just before the big hill at Blenheim and the Kluge Farm Shop. Corner 3 is the intersection with 795 and 708 just past the church.  Please try to decide if it is a situation where you could pick up the rider or send word to the finish for someone to come pick up the rider or if they need medical attention immediately.
