The Shop
For over thirty-five years, Blue Wheel Bicycles has been the perfect fit for Charlottesville’s bike community.
In 1972, Blue Wheel opened in UVA’s Corner District. For 33 years, we sold, fixed and chatted about bikes from a little blue building at the end of Elliewood Avenue.

In January of 2006, we moved to the historic Frank Ix Building in Downtown Charlottesville. For us, the Ix Building was the perfect fit, reflecting Charlottesville’s history and boldly forging its future. With over three decades spent on the Corner, we’re excited about spending our next thirty years Downtown.

The Staff
Blue Wheel owners Roger Friend and Scott Paisley have been riding bikes around Charlottesville since the late 70s. While they haven’t ridden every single road and trail in Central Virginia, they’ve come pretty close. And they definitely know what you need to ride comfortably and safely here.

Roger Friend
A multiple-time Virginia state champion, Roger Friend has been racing bikes since 1982. And despite all the bike races he’s won (highlights include 1st overall at New England’s prestigious Fitchburg-Longsjo Stage Race and 11th place in the senior men’s 1998 National Time Trial Championships), Roger also knows the pleasure of simply riding a bike across town for groceries. He holds a philosophy degree from the University of Virginia.

Scott Paisley
After college, Scott Paisley moved to London on fellowship to study bicycle design. He returned to Virginia, built a cabin and raised a family. Before coming to the Blue Wheel, he spent years working on the manufacturing side of the bicycle industry and even launched his own Paisley line of custom-built frames. Scott is a triathlete, cyclocrosser, road racer, mountain biker, cyclo-tourist and all-around nice guy.
